Local Development Budget Set to Equal 1% of National Budget

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia decided to transfer additional resources from the state budget to local administration for development expenditures over the next five years from 2024 to 2028. The new budget will be equal to 1% of the current national revenue, and is meant to improve public services and local development.

Prime Minister Hun Sen signed a sub-decree on July 10, in which he ordered the Ministry of Economy to arrange the distribution of funds to each commune (Sangkat) administration, by notifying the recipients, transferring the money and monitoring the expenditures. The funds will be distributed in parts with each commune receiving 25% at the beginning of each quarter. The additional funding will not be provided to districts in Phnom Penh, but will be distributed to other provinces.

The Prime Minister finished by asking community leaders to spend the additional funds in accordance with Cambodian laws and regulations towards community development.
